Situated at a crossroad on the Balkans, Bulgaria is the oldest state in Europe. With its roots being deep in the history Bulgarian musical culture has long now gone beyond the parameters of the metaphorical definition "The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices". It says much but not all. In its contemporary culture Bulgaria still bears the invigorating traces of its remote past; encompassing the characteristic features of the Thracian and later on of the Slavonic cultures. So much more has enriched that culture during the centuries. It is the creative blend of the variety of ethnic cultural traditions that paints the richness and singularity, the uniqueness of the Bulgarian music phenomenon. In its tradition it can never be drained; contemporary Bulgarian musicians vitalizing it through the energy of their talent when interpreting European traditions. Sofia MusicMark seeks and identifies
unconventional forms of interpretation of contemporary performing practices
and provoking harmonies, which are a continuation of the crossover experiments.
Some of our roster artists have created most unexpected combinations
of classical instrumental sound with authentic folklore music while
others use an enormous variety of means of expression when interpreting
religious, traditional, classical or contemporary music motifs. Sofia MusicMark sees many opportunities to broaden the performing territory of precious Bulgarian musicians and artists in the crossover of genres by presenting them to the audiences worldwide. |
